RUDY LaPICKI have had a love for music ever since I can remember. I became
interested in playing the drums after watching bands like the Beatles, Stones and others on TV. I received my first drum at age 11, an Emenee Big Bash snare. The following Christmas I received my first drum set. Being a self taught drummer, I would listen and play along with Led Zeppelin, Cream, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Mountain, Grand Funk and many other hard rock bands of the day. I would have to say that John Bonham and Ginger Baker were drummers that had a great influence on me. There have been and are so many great drummers, but I would have to say that the king of all would have to be Buddy Rich. The man was a drum machine with perfect timing, creativity and incredible speed! I played in high school rock bands and continued playing on a regular basis until my early twenties. I took a hiatus when work, marriage and starting a family became a priority. It wasn't until 2004 when a co-worker of mine approached me and asked if I wanted to play drums in an oldies band that I picked up the sticks again. I've been active ever since then playing shows at the Tarrytown Music Hall, Arthur Ave. feasts, local bars/restaurants and private parties. Playing classic rock cover music with "The Thornwoods" has been an enjoyable and fun experience. |
